Ministry Welcomes Incentives For First Olympic Gold
KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 - The Youth and Sports Ministry has welcomed incentives offered by the private sector to a national athlete who wins the first gold medal at the London Olympics.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said this would encourage national athletes to do their best at the Olympics.
He said to date, RM4 million in cash and kinds, including a gold bar worth RM2 million pledged by the Kuala Lumpur Racket Club, had been offered by various quarters.
Another RM2 million was pledged by the government through the Sports Incentive Scheme for winners of gold medals and a local furniture manufacturer, 3V Holdings Sdn Bhd, he told Bernama after an interview over the Hello Malaysia on Bernama TV Tuesday night.
