Scholars Reject Call To Lift Ban On Anti-hadis Book
KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 - Several Islamic scholars have brushed aside a call for the ban on the book "Hadis: Satu Penilaian Semula" (Hadis: A Re-evaluation) by Kassim Ahmad, to be lifted.
Describing the call as bizarre, Perlis mufti Dr Juanda Jaya said it was a futile effort to get the ban lifted as the writer's views on hadis (Prophet Muhammad's sayings) had been rejected.
"So we should not waste our time to do something in vain and he (the writer) should review his idea," said Juanda in a text message to Bernama Wednesday.
A news portal reported yesterday that Kassim had written to the home minister three months ago, urging the government to lift the ban imposed in 1986 on his book in 1986 which was deemed to go against the teachings of Islam.
